Top Reasons to Go to Boarding School

Why should parents consider sending their children to boarding school, and in particular, Brook Hill’s boarding school? How is it any better than sending your children to a regular day school? These are common questions parents ask as they review educational options for their children. There are many benefits and reasons for attending boarding school. Academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities are common considerations, but there are also more things to consider. Here are some of the top reasons for choosing a boarding school:

Highly Qualified, Loving, Nurturing Faculty and Staff

Brook Hill has a faculty that is passionate about the Lord, their students, their subject matter and about teacher.  Many of our teachers hold advanced degrees.  With little to no disciplinary issues in the class room students have the advantage of quality education and more of it.  Not only do our teachers know their material incredibly well, but they also love our students.  It is like the old saying goes, “They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”  Brook Hill students know beyond a shadow of a doubt that their teachers care.  The proof of this is that we always receive loads of emails, cards and letters from alum telling us how much they learned and how much they miss the love and care they received while at Brook Hill.   One student even remarked that the love he received from his teachers was what he called “unreasonable”.  He said he couldn’t understand why these teachers loved him as much as they did.  There was no good reason for it.  It was “unreasonable.”

Exceptional Athletic Opportunities

At Brook Hill our students have the opportunity and advantage to engage in athletic competition including volleyball, cross country, football, cheer, soccer, golf, tennis, track and field, softball, baseball and basketball with other beneficial offerings always under consideration.

Amazing Fine Arts

Theater, choir, orchestra, drum line and visual arts are all among the variety of engaging and quality fine arts programs that students can enjoy at Brook Hill.  These programs not only offer extraordinary opportunities for our students to express their gifts, talents and abilities, but they also exhibit these talents in the public arena through performances like the upcoming Fiddler on the Roof musical.  Our choir, orchestra and drum line are also regularly invited to perform at public events and activities.  Additionally, most of these programs bring home either State Championship trophies or finalist category recognition every year in TAPPS competitions.

A Preview of College Residence Life

Leaving home can be a very difficult thing for students.  But as they do so in the high school and even middle school years they give themselves the advantage of having adapted to a college-like experience well in advance of other students.  An additional advantage at Brook Hill students have is to live among students from all over the world.  Just this year there are a total of twenty different countries represented among our boarding students.  Brook Hill boarding students will run no risk of not knowing how to interact with students from other countries and cultures when they hit the college campus after graduating from Brook Hill.  Not only with enjoy the international aspect of our boarding school, but they will do so under the care of our nurturing House Parents and Residence Life Staff who watch after the kids and care for their needs.

An Environment Where Learning and Academic Achievement Are the Norm

While academic rigor may be the exception at some schools, at Brook Hill it is the rule.  The faculty stretch and challenge their students so that the students’ potential can be realized, which has been and will continue to be one of the three pillars of the Brook Hill experience – Education, Potential and Character.

An Emphasis on Character

We recognize that if you only train the child’s mind and body you have left out a major aspect of the human person – the soul.  That is why we emphasize Christ-like character across the board with our students.  To that end we have weekly chapels, advisory time in small groups, Bible classes and weekly church services for boarding students.  All of this is delivered within the context and ethos of a Christ-centered environment through a loving, Christian faculty and staff.
