Although we cannot see photosynthesis happening we can observe the outcome.  Students in Dual Credit Biology carried out spinach leaf disk assays.  In the assay, the leaf disk are saturated with water and a carbon source causing them to sink to the bottom of a container.  As photosynthesis take place inside the disk the water is broken down releasing oxygen.  As the oxygen is released; the disk become lighter, and begin to float.
