Speech & Debate
Debate class had a mock congressional debate in class. The format followed the UIL competitive debate format, and students have been studying and learning about it for weeks. Last week, they spent time writing the bill and this week they prepared for the debate. The drafted bill sought to limit states to a maximum of 10 executions of death row inmates a year, minimizing the total number of civilian executions carried out in the nation. After a thrilling debate, the negative side won and the bill did not pass.
In speech, students have been giving their first presentations. Their first assignment was to give an informative speech, and they did an awesome job! Ms McHugh is excited to see how they improve throughout the semester!
