Middle School Headmaster’s Honor Guard
From the desk of Tammy Hayes, Middle School Principal:
It’s no easy task to make this wall at The Brook Hill School! Students must learn to manage quite a lot in order to make this elite group from juggling schedules between parents, sports, and special events. What am I referring to? We are talking about the Headmaster’s Honor Guard which boasts of students who made a 4.0 grade point average for the first semester! Their picture is seated in a coveted spot in Ornelas Hall; and for anyone who has accomplished that, kudos are in order! These students must make adjustments in their lives and make sure that they keep the main thing, the main thing.
When students were asked what it takes to make the wall, they answered with the following responses:
- always do your homework
- remember to study for a test
- ask the teachers for help
- take good notes
- be willing to stay up late at night after games
- pay attention to your teacher in class
- make sure to read your novels
This doesn’t really sound like an unreachable goal when you see these answers. And, most students would agree it really just takes making it a priority to make the A!

Whether it is all A’s or a couple of B’s thrown in, students who begin setting and achieving academic goals in middle school are more likely to achieve those goals in high school, merely because they have already put the right “student habits” in place, states Mrs. Hayes, Middle School principal. The transition to harder curriculum and more lengthy novels is not so daunting once they have practiced doing well along the way. It is also a good way to build up their resume of achievement to prepare for what is asked on college entrance applications, including automatic inclusion in the National Junior Honor Society. At The Brook Hill School, accomplishments are many and opportunities for success in athletics, the arts, and academics all abound. This semester we are especially proud of these who have made either of these lists of honor and applaud all of the extra efforts they gave to make the wall!
