It’s Just the Art Room – or – Is It More?
From the desk of Sandra Fritcher, Lower School Principal:
All kids like art. All adults like art. After all, everyone enjoys coloring and painting, but can an art class go beyond color and paint? Yes, it can, and at the Lower School, it absolutely does.
Lisa Larios joined our Lower School family this year as our art teacher, and we are so thankful for her. Mrs. Larios is so much more than just the teacher in the art room. She has transformed our art room into a learning environment that encourages, enlightens, and excites our students. All our children, PK-5th grade, are learning about art and having great fun at the same time.
Mrs. Larios is a master art teacher who is not only passionate about art, but she is also passionate about teaching children. She is very talented and creative. She has tremendous knowledge and enthusiasm about art, and she shares both with our students.
Elements of art, as well as art principles, are incorporated into whatever is taught. Art appreciation and art history are blended into each lesson. Our students feel really comfortable in Mrs. Larios’ classroom. They are discovering their hidden talents while producing spectacular and impressive art.
No, our art classroom is no longer just the art room. This is obvious when one enters the room. Higher order thinking present? Absolutely! Creative expression present? Absolutely! Enormous enjoyment present? Absolutely! Our art classroom is now a student-centered, art-centered, and God-centered environment that is a work of art itself. Thank you, Lisa Larios!!
