Financial Aid for College
From the desk of Celia Tucker, Academic Counselor:
While enjoying a presentation by the Director of Financial Aid at LeTourneau University last week, senior students and parents snacked on homemade bread and water while visions of dollar signs danced in their heads. Because thinking about the cost of college can be a little overwhelming let’s go over some of the basics as far as what to expect with Financial Aid Award letters.
- Admitted students who have filed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid fafsa.gov (NOT .com) will receive a Financial Aid Award letter from the college.
- Financial Aid Award letters will include various types of aid from scholarships to grants to work study to loans, etc.
- Students can accept or reject any or all types of aid offered.
- Students should become best friends with the Financial Aid office at the school they are going to attend. Remember that no question is a silly question.
- Financial Aid offices work with students on a daily basis and are the ones who need to know about extenuating circumstances that your family might have when it comes to paying for college. If they do not know they cannot help.
