Can Your Class Schedule Help Prepare You For College?

From the desk of Brian Nelson, Academic Dean:

College preparation is vital to the success of our students, and at Brook Hill you can see this woven into all that we do.  Adjusting to a collegiate class schedule has always been a large part of the academic transition for college freshmen.  True preparation is what motivated us to design our schedule to mimic the alternating structure of university classes.  Our A/B block schedule is helping to form a foundation for success in the future.

Build Lasting Academic Habits

The A/B block schedule allows students to form learning and study skills on a schedule similar to that of most U.S. colleges.  This will help our students ease the transition from high school to college with exceptional time management and academic strategies in place.

More Daily Focus

A/B block schedules reduce the number of classes students attend in a day.  With fewer classes, students’ attentions are not as divided and each day has fewer lessons, quizzes, tests, and homework assignments.  Our students are able to focus on fewer subjects at a time helping to reduce nightly academic stress.

More Time to Complete Homework

While students should strive to complete homework assignments the night they are assigned, with an alternating class schedule students have two nights to complete homework assignments before they are due.  This is beneficial if a student is absent or away from school for an extracurricular activity.  It also allows a student to seek help from a teacher on a homework assignment prior to the actual due date.

Our desire is for your child to be prepared, and our class schedule is just one way that we are intentionally designing our program to achieve this mission.
