American Progress in 7th Grade
7th grade Humanities students in Mrs. Figueroa’s & Mrs. Mattay’s classes continued their study of Manifest Destiny this week. After analyzing John Gast’s painting, American Progress, students discussed the causes, effects, and long-term results of westward expansion. The lesson came to life when students created an illustration that predicted what Manifest Destiny might look like between the 21st and 22nd centuries. In conjunction with their fabulous artwork, students wrote a short paper in which they explained how communication, technology, transportation, and major beliefs would change over the next one hundred years. Watch out, universe! The United States (and Brook Hill students) are quite ambitious!
