3rd Grade Studies Immigration
3rd graders in history have been studying about immigrants. Students have learned why and how immigrants come to the United States. This week, students were able to experience first hand the hard work it takes to move here and to make adjustments when they heard the experiences of Lidia Istrada. Lidia immigrated to the USA from Romania to make a better life for her special needs son. As she told her story, our students began to realize how blessed they are to live in America. Lidia not only wanted a better life for her son, but she also recalled how she and her sister were the only two Christians in her elementary school, and experienced mockery and ridicule for their faith in Christ. Lidia also showed us her Romanian Bible, some Romanian currency, and her U.S. citizenship papers. 3rd graders were then able to ask her some questions. It was a learning experience for everyone who heard Lidia’s story.
